Connect with Clients In Person or Virtual: Individuals, Couples, Family Systems

Samantha is a therapist who has practiced in many different settings since beginning her career. While her roles have varied in each setting, her primary focus has always been working with her clients to improve their understanding of self, relationships, and priorities. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont.

Much of Samantha’s training included working with survivors of intimate partner violence. Through this work, Samantha became passionate about the role of safety in security in not only intimate relationships, but all relationships. She developed an awareness of the impact of power and control dynamics on an individual’s sense of self and safety. Samantha’s work is based on this understanding of relationships and security.

Based on her work and training in Attachment Theory, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Samantha is passionate about working with individuals or couples who have experienced relational trauma, suffer from depression or anxiety, or are curious and interested in exploring their sense of self-actualization and overall fulfillment.

Samantha lives with her goldendoodle, Stanley in Ann Arbor, MI. While she is a born and raised Pittsburgher, prior to landing in Michigan, Samantha made a pit stop in Burlington, Vermont, where she lived for 6 years. When she is not working as a therapist, she enjoys taking Stanley on long walks, running (a relatively newfound hobby), and cooking soups (even in the summer).

WHO: This group open to any runner who would like explore their own psychology, the experience of running and relationship with movement, their bodies and mind.

WHAT:  Each week will include gathering as a group to set intentions and discuss any anticipated barriers or motivators for the run. Participants will be encouraged to assess their bodies and energy levels before beginning the run. The group will then set out for a 45-50-minute run that can be done individually or with the group, through the 2.6 mile Argo/Barton Pond loop. After the run, the group will gather to explore and process anything that may have come up during the run.

WHY: The combination of the wellness of our bodies, feeling confident, allowing space for relaxation and rest, but also pushing ourselves to achieve leads to a confusing relationship with exercise -- particularly running. Discuss the complex relationship we may have with running and allow ourselves to name the parts of the relationship that feel difficult to navigate with both ourselves and how we talk about it with others.
