Emma Krug, MSW Clinical Intern

“To me, "BLND" reflects a holistic understanding of every individual, and it means meeting clients figuratively and literally where they are at. It's about cultivating relationships beyond a transactional nature, creating an environment where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. It's about bridging gaps, fostering understanding, and creating spaces where collaboration thrives.”

What brings you into the field of social work/therapy?

I have a complex background, as does everyone, and my unique upbringing and life experiences have pointed me toward the path of social work. I spent two years working in residential treatment facilities with adolescents and adults, and the mentors I had in those settings solidified my desire and passion to obtain my MSW and become a therapist. Some of the very best people I know are social workers, and learning from them has been an honor and privilege as I figure out my professional goals.

What are some of your favorite mental health topics right now?

The power of exercise on one's mental health, benefits of direct sunlight in the morning, play therapy for children who have experienced early-life trauma, adoption trauma, poetry as a therapeutic outlet, and attachment styles.

What population(s) are you interested in working with?

I am particularly interested in working with children and adolescents. I enjoy working with teenagers because they are at a uniquely malleable age where early intervention and empathetic support can literally change their lives. Adolescence can be an extremely challenging time–developmentally, emotionally, and socially–and I am passionate about the power of a supportive adult figure on children and/or adolescents.

What kinds of services are you interested in?

I am interested in providing individual and group therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, meditation, and yoga.

Favorite ways to rest?

Hot yoga, reading, writing poetry, and doing anything to move my body and get outside!

What do you do when you’re not working and/or in school?

Spend time with family and friends, traveling near the mountains, going to the gym, or adventuring outdoors.

What’s your favorite season/kind of weather?

Fall! I love seeing the leaves change colors and going for long bike rides.

What are you currently reading/podcasting?

The Center Cannot Hold by Elyn Saks.

Favorite fun fact about you?

I was a competitive swimmer for most of my childhood–the 100-yard butterfly was my favorite event!

What is something that people cannot see about you, that you’d want them to know?

I have eight siblings, and I love each of them with my entire being. 9 out of 10 casual conversations involve me bragging about one/multiple/all of them.

If you could have dinner with one person (deceased or alive) who would it be and why?

I would want to meet and talk to my mom when she was exactly my age. I would learn a lot from her life experiences, and I would love for her to see that her daughter grew up to be happy and healthy. It would be cool and powerful to speak to my mom when we are both the same age because I want to ask her many questions.

If you were not a social worker, what would you be?

If I were not a social worker, I would want to be an actress or singer–but I have some stage fright to overcome.

What are your values?

Authenticity and courage.
